We're a small, independent team based in Waterford, Ireland, on a mission to make budgeting simple. PennyTrack reviews budgeting apps, spreadsheet templates and expense tracking tools so you can choose with confidence.
Our Story
PennyTrack started in 2021 after our founder spent weeks trying to compare budgeting apps for her own household — and found that most "reviews" were little more than affiliate ads. We decided there had to be a better way.
Today, PennyTrack publishes hands-on reviews of more than 120 budgeting tools, free spreadsheet templates, and step-by-step guides covering methods like zero-based budgeting and the 50/30/20 rule. Over 45,000 readers use our guides every month.
Every tool we recommend is tested by a real member of our team with real money. If a product isn't good enough for our own budgets, it doesn't appear on this site.
What We Stand For
Independence
Our rankings come from hands-on testing, never from what an advertiser pays. Sponsored placements are always clearly labelled, and affiliate partnerships never influence our scores.
Privacy First
We favour tools that collect less data, offer read-only bank access, and publish clear security certifications. Your financial data should belong to you.
Practical Value
Budgeting shouldn't cost more than it saves. We highlight free tiers, honest pricing breakdowns, and templates that work without a paid subscription.
How We Review Tools
Hands-on testing
Each reviewer uses the tool for at least 30 days with their own accounts and transactions — not a demo environment.
Scored criteria
We evaluate features, pricing, ease of setup, customer support, and security against a published scoring rubric.
Independent checks
A second team member verifies pricing, privacy policies and claims before any review is published.
Ongoing updates
Reviews are revisited at least twice a year, so pricing and feature information stays current.
